Njiani River Camp sits 18 kilometres outside Moshi, the last 10 of them on a dirt road. We are off-grid — solar powered, access well water and with few neighbours to speak of. What we have is space, quiet, and one of the most direct views of Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru you will find anywhere in the region. On a clear morning, the mountain fills the sky.
The camp is simple and intentional. Two furnished safari tents, open pitches for your own tent or vehicle, a self-catering kitchen, a bar, hot showers, and a fire pit that earns its keep every evening. Kikafu River flows three hundred metres down a rugged path from the camp. The kind of place you arrive at and immediately stop checking your phone.
Njiani is owner-run by the two of us — an Irish and Tanzanian couple who know this landscape well and chose it deliberately. We live next to the camp, which means there is always someone here who knows where the best walks are, what the road conditions are like, and whether Kilimanjaro is likely to be clear in the morning. We built Njiani for people who want to get properly away — whether you are coming from the other side of the world or the other side of Moshi.

Safari tents and open pitches for local weekenders, solo travellers, overlanders, climbers, and small groups. Simple, clean, and well looked after — with Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru on the horizon.
Simple facilities, maintained with care and kept that way.
After a long day on the road, a climb, or a walk down to the river, hot running water matters more than most things. We keep it simple and we keep it clean.
Full self-catering kitchen available to all guests. Clean, well-equipped, and built for people who know how to look after themselves. Not in the mood to cook? Our locally trained chef is available on request.
A well-stocked bar and a fire that goes most evenings. The kind of place where the day slows down, cold drinks appear, and conversations run later than planned.
From mountain hikes to river walks, cultural visits to cycling tours — the country around Njiani rewards those who explore it.

Guided river walks
Njiani sits at the foot of Kilimanjaro in some of the most varied and rewarding terrain in East Africa. From the camp you are well placed for day hikes on the mountain, guided cycling tours through the surrounding villages and farmland, walks down to the river, and cultural visits to neighbouring communities. Safari day trips into Amboseli, Arusha National Park, and the wider northern circuit are easily arranged. Whether you are here for a night or a week there is more than enough to fill the days — or nothing stopping you from doing absolutely nothing at all.
